Research Seminar Aug 28: CIES

The Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies (CIES) invites the campus community to attend a research seminar at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, in Room 318 Butler-Carlton Hall. The seminar, titled “Bond Behavior between Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) Composites and Concrete: State of the Art and New Challenges,” will be given by Dr. Christian Carloni, an Associate Professor of Structural Mechanics at the University of Bologna (Italy).

The seminar will provide an overview of an ongoing investigation of the bond behavior of FRCM-concrete joints conducted in collaboration with Dr. Sneed at Missouri S&T. This pioneering work includes an extensive experimental campaign as well as analytical and numerical study. Dr. Carloni, an active member of two RILEM Committees on composites, will provide a state of the art on FRCM composites and discuss some of the unsolved issues related to this newly-developed type of composite. See flyer for further details (http://cies.mst.edu/media/research/cies/documents/Seminar%208-28-15.pdf) or email Abigayle Sherman (abigayle@mst.edu).

Save the date: 2015 Transportation Infrastructure Conference : Dec. 4

Dear colleagues,

I am writing to request that you save the date for the 2015 Transportation Infrastructure conference, which will take place at the St. Louis University (SLU) campus on Friday, December 4th. This year’s event will be co-hosted with MoDOT and SLU.  As discussed earlier, by rotating the conference every other year outside Rolla, we hope to reach out to new audience and expose more people to innovative R&D that is taking place by CIES researchers.

As we begin planning for the event, I would also like to ask you to suggestion some keynote speakers that we could invite (with some justification) as well as your availability to make a presentation at the conference.  This is an excellent opportunity to get your research findings disseminated to local engineering firms as well as other researchers and students.  We anticipate 150 attendees at the event and my hope is that Missouri S&T will have a prominent presence at this event.  I am including in the attachment the programs of the last three CIES conferences. I appreciate having your suggestions by the end of next week if possible so we could move forward with the program and the marketing of this event.

Registration and further details will follow shortly.

I want to thank you in advance for your support of this activity, and I hope to see many of you and your students at this annual conference.

Kind regards, Kamal
