‘bepress’ — the next Scholar’s Mine platform — train up April 9

Given increasing requirements for data and publication, Missouri S&T Scholars’ Mine has become a rapidly growing online repository of digital materials representing Missouri S&T’s scholarly and creative output. As a service of the library this enables faculty to preserve their work and disseminate it to a worldwide audience.  This spring Missouri S&T, through the research support arm of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library,  is hosting Scholars’ Mine in Digital Commons and SelectedWorks by bepress (Berkeley Electronic Press).

You want to be at the Thursday April 9 training conducted with representatives of bepress.. You may attend all or selections of the schedule. Register here. 

  • 10:00–10:30am: Coffee and Pasty (Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Room 204); An opportunity to meet and greet the presenters.
  • 10:30am-11:00am: Introduction to Scholars’ Mine (Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Room 204); This session is an introduction and brief overview of our Institutional Repository initiative.
  • 11:00-12:00pm: Introduction to Institutional Repositories, Open Access, and Digital Commons (Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Room 204); This is a discussion of the open access as a movement, including the history and development of institutional repositories, and the basic values and functionality of Scholars’ Mine which is hosted in Digital Commons™ and SelectedWorks™ by bepress. Time for questions included.
  • 12:00-1:00pm: Lunch and Learn – SelectedWorks™ for Faculty (Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Room 204); Join us for a catered lunch and an introduction to SelectedWorks™ for faculty. SelectedWorks™ is a research announcement and faculty profile tool to maximize your readership and impact of your work. We will discuss the benefits of an active SelectedWorks™ site and the role the library plays in helping you establish and maintain your SelectedWorks™ site. Time for questions and discussion is included.
  • 1:30-2:15pm: Author Rights (Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Room 204); An introduction to the repository and authors’ rights for faculty includes a discussion about various publisher policies and negotiating copyright transfer agreements. Also includes some tips for using the repository and built-in networking tools to share research with a wider audience.
  • 2:30-3:30pm: Research Data (Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Room 204); This is a faculty-centered presentation about research data, with multiple examples and talking points about why the repository can be a great place for data.
