Regional Translational Medicine at KU in April 6 – 7

It is my pleasure, along with Joe Heppert, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Kansas (KU) Office of Research, to invite you to a regional Translational Medicine Meeting at the University of Kansas starting on Monday, Monday, April 6 at noon concluding on Tuesday April 7 at 2:00 p.m.

A copy of the preliminary agenda is attached. It includes multiple presentations on vaccine development, bioinformatics, neuroscience, bioengineering, infectious disease and cancer, and protein structure and function. There will also be guided tours of seven KU core lab facilities, and a Monday evening poster session, reception, and dinner at the Bioscience & Technology Business Center at KU.

By way of background, this is the third year that the Kansas Area Life Sciences Institute (KCALSI) has coordinated regional translational medicine meetings. We convened at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2013 and in 2014 at Kansas State University. These meetings help improve awareness and understanding of regional research expertise and facilities. They also foster new collaborations between institutions and with industry across the region.

Our desired outcome of this meeting is to increase regional collaborations and we ask you accordingly to please communicate those to KCALSI so that we can track the opportunities.

Specific Actions for You:
1. By Friday, March 6, please confirm your participation to Sharon Newman at and also register to attend the meeting at .
2. Hotel Reservations: Until March 13, The Oread Hotel in Lawrence is holding a block of rooms at a reduced rate for meeting participants. Information about the reduced rate is at the meeting registration site. More information about the Oread Hotel is available at
3. We would like to include the “right” researcher in the upcoming KU meeting. Please carefully consider who else would benefit from this meeting at KU and provide us their contact information to include in future correspondence.

We hope you can be part of this exceptional opportunity for collaboration April 6-7 in Lawrence.
