INVITATION: IMSE Facilities Materials Research Showcase via MRC Director Matt O’Keefe

ShowcaseOn April 13-15, 2015 the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (IMSE) at Washington University in St. Louis will host a showcase workshop on materials.  Dr. Subra Suresh, former Director of the NSF and current President of Carnegie Mellon University will be giving the Keynote Address on the morning of Monday, April 13th.  We have a number of other speakers lined up from Washington University and from other academic and industrial institutions, focused on topics within the areas of plasmonics & photonics, biomaterials, energy harvesting & storage and amorphous materials.   Additionally, there will be a graduate student poster session highlighting some of the research activities within the IMSE, a tour of the IMSE facilities, and on Wednesday, April 15th, several equipment workshops.  After the main event, on April 16-17, selected IMSE facilities will be available to outside users at deeply discounted rates.  Users are encouraged to bring their own samples for characterization.

A brochure outlining the meeting is attached; more information can be found on the IMSE website .   There is no registration fee, but the registration information for the participants is needed to help with planning.  A registration form can be found at please note that the deadline for registration is March 23.  For those interested in joining lunches or dinners, we ask that you indicate which meals that you would like to attend and your dietary preference on the registration form, where you will find the cost for each meal.  For those interested in using the facilities on April 16-17, if special sample preparation is required prior to examination you are asked to contact in advance one of the two microscopy scientists, Dr. Tyrone Daulton and Dr. Huafang Li.  Their contact information can be found at

The IMSE is dedicated to building partnerships with academic and industrial institutions and with national facilities.   The Showcase provides a great opportunity to begin to work together to strengthen materials science and engineering in this region.
