Spotlight on ERDC

The Energy Research and Development Center (ERDC) serves as a focal point for Research, Development, and Deployment activities related to energy-related technologies and energy security. ERDC researchers focus on educating students to analyze and solve issues related to environmental and economic sustainability of energy systems that improve rural economies and expand resource diversity. The center fosters close collaboration between Missouri S&T and other research centers in industry, national labs, and other universities. Work conducted through the ERDC is aimed at benefiting the university, the state of Missouri and the nation. We have recently moved into the first floor of ERL.

ERDC has Seed Funding; requests are typically solicited during the spring semester of every academic year.Seed funding requests for next year should be submitted to the Director of the Energy Research & Development Center energy@mst.edu in the form of a 2-page white paper and budget summary by May 2015. Junior faculty are especially encouraged to apply for funding.

ERDC solar villageis the home of the small modular reactor Research and Education Consortium (SmrREC) a provides its members with research results to advance the design, construction and operation of SMRs by collaborating in the development of precompetitive technologies. The member-driven Consortium facilitates the establishment of the highest quality multi-disciplinary teams of researchers to support the specific needs of the Consortium, thereby advancing the entire nuclear energy sector. The Consortium also provides educational and outreach opportunities to maintain a pipeline of trained engineers and scientists needed to support the nuclear industry renaissance.

DoD Opens Applications for the DMRDP Team Performance Training Research Initiative The objectives of the Defense Medical Research and Development Program (DMRDP) are to discover and explore innovative approaches to protect, support, and advance the health and welfare of military personnel, families,and communities; to accelerate the transition of medical technologies into deployed products; and to accelerate the translation of advances in knowledge into new standards of care for injury prevention, treatment of casualties, rehabilitation, and training systems that can be applied in theater or in the clinical facilities of the Military Health System (MHS). Pre-applications are due on January 22, 2015; proposals are then due on April 9, 2015.
Research Initiation Grants in Engineering Education (RIGEE) National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Engineering (ENG) Division of Engineering Education and Centers (EEC) The intent of the RIGEE program is to broaden participation of faculty in engineering education research rather than create an additional funding channel for established engineering education researchers. The Research in Engineering Education program on the EEC website provides opportunities for established researchers.
Research Interests of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research BAA – Information, Decision and Complex Networks (RTC) – Computational and Machine Intelligence United States Department of Defense (DOD) Department of the Air Force (USAF) Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) This program supports basic research in computational intelligence This program supports innovative basic research on fundamental principles and methodologies of computational intelligence necessary to create robust intelligent autonomous systems.
Materials Engineering and Processing (MEP) National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Engineering (ENG) Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI) The Materials Engineering and Processing (MEP) program supports fundamental research addressing the processing and mechanical performance of engineering materials by investigating the interrelationship of materials processing, structure, properties and/or life-cycle performance for targeted applications.
